Greenhouse Gases (GHG) are heat-trapping gases in the Earth’s atmosphere—such as carbon dioxide (CO₂), methane (CH₄), nitrous oxide (N₂O), and fluorinated gases—that absorb and re-emit infrared radiation. They are essential for maintaining the planet’s temperature but, in excess due to human activities like burning fossil fuels, deforestation, and industrial processes, they cause global warming and drive climate change.
